Three Peel teachers from Applewood Heights - Mr. Rawlings,
Ms. Bilic and Ms. Fry - are this year's provincial winners of
the Roy C. Hill Award for Innovative Teaching.
Their winning submission was Lessons Online, something
that all Applewood students are familiar with - - it's a web-based
initiative that is used to develop Internet research skills and
to deliver curriculum in a fresh and interactive manner. These
online lessons are available free of charge to anyone with Internet
access by going to the Applewood homepage and clicking on the
apple beside Lessons Online. The aim of the award, which
is administered by the Canadian Teachers' Federation and includes
a cash prize of $2,500, is to encourage and reward teachers who
have developed new ideas by recognizing the initiative and professional
enterprise displayed in the development and successful application
of important educational innovations. A description of this project
will be published in Innovations '98, an annual publication of
these award-winning teaching projects.
